You can machine wash your Avocado Green Pillow cotton cover with cold water. Do not use bleach. Hang dry. To clean the inner liner, spot clean. To refresh your pillow before bed time, just give it a good fluff. Or protect your pillow and add a touch of luxury with our Quilted Pillow Protectors.

Our natural pillows come voluminously stuffed, delivering a medium-plush feel. However, if you prefer to change its level of support, a convenient zipper enables you to remove fill to meet your ideal volume, firmness, and sleeping preference. Every Avocado Organic pillow is GREENGUARD Gold Certified by UL Environment. That means they’re scientifically tested to meet the world’s most rigorous emissions standards for chemical exposure and pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, and phthalates. Vegan Action (the Vegan Awareness Foundation) in Richmond, Virginia, has certified the Green Pillow and its manufacturing process, verifying the pillow does not use wool and does not contain animal products or byproducts that have been tested on animals.

Made in North America with domestic and imported materials. For a luxurious and premium finish, we use soft, breathable GOTS-certified organic cotton (CU863867), sourced from North Carolina and Canada for the most breathable of covers. The natural fill is a mix comprised of GOLS-certified organic latex, made with ≥95% certified organic latex, the highest possible standard, and sourced from our own facilities in India and Guatemala, plus GOTS-certified organic Kapok fiber (CU863867), also sourced from India. All material processing, cut & sew, assembly, and packaging are performed at our factory. A convenient zipper makes it easy to add or remove fill to suit your sleep preference.

The Avocado Green Pillow contains no chemical flame retardants, which are known to release VOCs and impact human health. We do not add them because we believe they generally do more harm than good. (FYI: Pillows are not required to pass the Standard for the Flammability of Mattresses and Mattress Pads, issued by the CPSC. Therefore, it is logical that ignition sources should be kept safely away from any pillow that contains natural materials without the use of chemical flame retardants.)

Machine wash your cotton cover only in cold water with an eco-friendly laundry detergent. Lay flat or hang to dry. Do not use bleach. Allow to dry completely before putting the cover back on your pillow. Fluff your pillow regularly; an excellent time to do so is when you make your bed in the morning.

Your Green Pillow comes with an extra fill bag for simple, customized comfort. To add volume to your pillow, or to extend its life, you can add pillow refill. Additional refill packages can be purchased in two convenient sizes.

A law label is a legally required tag or label on a new mattress or pillow describing interior filling materials. Few companies will share this information before your purchase because it separates fact from marketing hype. We believe differently. Here is what the legal tag on the standard Avocado Green Pillow says: Made using domestic and imported materials with internal materials consisting of natural latex (70%) and kapok fiber (30%), based on weight.

As a Climate Neutral Certified company since 2019, we've measured Avocado's annual cradle-to-consumer emissions, offset them by investing in climate change solutions, and started taking real action to reduce our emissions. We also recognize our offsets and reductions aren't enough. Solving climate change will require systemic solutions. That's why, through our partnerships with Ceres and the American Sustainable Business Network, we also advocate for state and federal policies that support equitable solutions to the climate crisis.

We're proud to be certified by UL Solutions for a landfill diversion rate of 85%. That means only 15% of our manufacturing waste ends up in the landfill — we upcycle or recycle the rest. Since we began Project Zero Waste in 2020, we've been a pioneer in the space, increasing our waste diversion rate by 33%. We are the first mattress and bedding company to achieve this. But we aren't done yet. Our goal is at least a 90% diversion rate.

The “thread count” is the number of threads woven together in one square inch of fabric. These numbers are often inflated — most sheets are multi-ply, which means threads are layered and twisted to gain a higher count for marketing purposes, while compromising the sheet’s quality. Our Organic Cotton Sheets are a true 400 or 600 thread count single-ply made of extra long staple organic cotton, so they are finer and softer.

Made with a manufacturing process that reduces water and electricity consumption, our Organic Cotton Sheets are pre-washed and processed to maintain a neutral pH level providing a safe touch to the skin. We’ve also worked to reduce the amount of wasted fabric during production. The effort is part of the broader environmental mission, like our Farm to Mattress concept, that drives Avocado.

Our cotton is purchased directly from family growers to ensure traceability. We believe in getting to know the farmers and experiencing the farms where the cotton is grown. Each bale of cotton arrives at our cotton mill for processing with a unique number, allowing complete traceability from the farm to the final production process. This process uses the latest technology to create the world's most efficient, productive cotton spinning system — essential to producing the finest quality yarns.

Sleep with complete peace of mind knowing our sheets are certified MADE SAFE® standards — a rigorous scientific screening process for chemicals known or suspected to harm human health, animals, aquatic life, or ecosystems. The certification screens for more than 6,500 harmful substances, including banned substances, toxic chemicals, pesticides, and dyes.

A high thread count does not translate to a better quality sheet for standard cotton or even most other long staple cotton. Using single-ply yarns, most cottons achieve a maximum thread count of around 400-500. After that, multi-ply yarn must be used, which indicates a lower quality cotton that needs multiple plies woven together for strength. No multi-ply yarn is used in our organic cotton sheets.

Wash with like colors in warm water. Use mild natural liquid detergent. Do not use fabric softeners, bleach, or whiteners. Line dry or tumble dry low and remove promptly. Fabric softeners and dryer sheets reduce the absorbency of cotton textiles and are not recommended. As a natural alternative use wool dryer balls. Iron hot or steam as needed.
